After finishing his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1988 Mr. Delahaza joined WJE, where he is a project engineer on a broad range of assignments, including pre-construction surveys, analysis of roof planks, investigation of distressed parking structures and plate-connected wood trusses and the design of building facade repairs.

He has conducted static load tests of reinforced concrete burial vaults and pre-stressed concrete ties, and performed in-depth investigations of historic structures. He has also conducted an extensive racking load testing program of standard wood frames sheathed with laminated fiber board material designed to serve as shear panels, and stress analysis of a 3-hinged arch bridge.

Mr. Delahaza specializes in nondestructive testing (NDT). He has extensive experience in applying NDT techniques, specifically impact-echo testing, to the evaluation of concrete structures. He has developed and applied the impact-echo test method to many unique situations. Using this technique, he has investigated concrete-related problems in a variety of structures, including dams, bridges, concrete domes, post-tensioned parking garages, concrete tunnel liners, airport pavements, slab-on-grade structures and foundations.

His project experience includes completing a comprehensive nondestructive investigation of the Refugio Gold Mine in the Cordillera de Los Andes, Republic of Chile, and various projects involving the use of through-transmission ultrasonic techniques, infrared thermography, acoustic emission and radar.

Mr. Delahaza has been involved in the control of vibrations resulting from blasting, pile driving and other construction activities. He has experience in finite element modeling and vibration analysis of structures. He was involved in performing extensive quality audit of constructed facilities for the Seoul-Taejon section of the $13 billion South Korea high-speed rail system. He has also performed an investigation of the 9-acre reinforced concrete roof of the King-dome in Seattle, USA.

Mr. Delahaza is a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He currently serves on ACI Committee 228, Nondestructive Testing of Concrete.

Mr. Delahaza has published several papers on impact-echo testing of concrete, ultrasonic pulse velocity and infrared thermography. He is frequently giving lectures on nondestructive testing of concrete.
