Mr. John Aubrey Bickley holds diploma in Civil Engineering from the U.K. He is a registered professional engineer in the Canadian Province of Ontario as well as a consulting engineer. Mr. Bickley is a Fellow of
the Institution of Civil Engineers in England, After working two years as site engineer on industrial construction projects in the U.K., Mr. Bickley took over a position as head of the concrete, soils and asphalt section of one of the major consulting engineering companies in England, a position he held for 10 years. During this period he provided consulting, testing and inspection services on major suspension bridges, expressways, dams, dockyards, airfields, conventional and nuclear power stations and experimental nuclear reactors. Included in this work is about 20 trips to Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan and Jordan. In Canada Mr. Bickley became subsequently partner
and manager of the consulting engineering company Trow Inc. in Toronto and was head of its
Concrete Technology Services for 21 years. Among the many large construction projects
quality control he has been in charge of is the CN Tower in Toronto. He was, furthermore,
assigned five trips to the Middle East to investigate concrete problems in this period. He implemented successfully the use of Lok-Test in North America for fast track construction. For 10 years Mr. Bickley
was principal of the Network of Centers of Excellence on High Performance Concrete in
Canada and was in 1993 appointed Adjunct Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering
at the University of Toronto. Today Mr. Bickley is a sole practitioner. Mr. Bickley holds awards from the American Concrete Institute and the Canadian Standards Association. He is former chairman of the American Concrete Institutes (ACI) committee 228 on Non Destructive Testing, committee 363 on High Strength Concrete and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) committee S413 on Durable Parking Structures. His membership included the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) committees C9 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, C9.02.05 on Non Destructive Testing and C9.61 on Methods of Testing of Concrete for Strength and RILEMs committee TC126-1PT on In-Place Testing. He has been involved in numerous R&D projects on advanced concrete, its applications and testing, and has authored more than 50 publications on concrete and testing of concrete..
