Professor John Bungey has studied at the
University of St Andrews and Imperial College and, following industrial experience, has
undertaken research and teaching at the University of Liverpool for the past 30
years. This activity has focussed on structural concrete including design, materials
and performance testing. He leads the Structures and Materials research group and
has been Head of Department from 1997 to 2002.
Research and consultancy on NDT has been
extensive, with more than 120 published papers. This has included insitu strength
assessment as well as durability and integrity testing using a wide range of techniques
such as ultrasonics, pull-out and pull-off, maturity and temperature matched curing,
permeability methods and sub-surface radar. He has lectured worldwide on these
topics.
He is author of textbooks
on Reinforced Concrete Design (currently in 5th Edition) and Testing Concrete
in Structures (currently in 3rd Edition) and has chaired the British Standards
committee on NDT of Concrete responsible for the BS1881 pt200 series. and the British
National Committee for NDT. He is currently a member of Concrete Society, Highways
Agency, RILEM and ACI committees on the subject.
